Playing with Pictures

I've had quite a few kiddo's ask how to make jpegs and manipulate the size so they'll fit across the top of their blog and act as a header. While I use Image composer, which is an archaic program, (if it aint broke, don't fix it :-) I don't know what everyone has at home. I'd love for all the kiddo's to learn Photoshop, but that takes money.

And so when I ran across this little jewel of a freebie I had to share! It's called pixlr.com. It has similar features to Photoshop, and I'd love for the kiddo's to play! Now, you do have to sign up, which basically involves giving them your email and creating a password, but once that's taken care of you can create, layer, and put words on any picture you'd like. Too, some of the tools (such as the lasso, the wand, etc) are the same as Photoshop, so learn this first and when we get to that stage it'll be a breeze!

Now I'm learning this one with you, so I'm no expert. But if you have a questions feel free to post one and I'll see if I can't find the answer. As always, go play, have fun, be fearless, and learn something new!

Hello, my name is Sar-

Sorry I am in the mid-
SPLAT!
OK! Sarah my name is Sarah!!!

I’ll get in my igloo so I don-
CRICK!
So I don’t get hit!
I am in the middle of an avalanche, and, by the way, I am in Antarctica. Since I am in Antarctica it is very normal to have an avalanche, but I have no way back to Australia so I have to stay in an igloo.
The good thing about Antarctica is that I have a sled dog. He is a husky.

Going to Gattitown!

                                                                          By: Luigi
Dad, mom, my little brother Isaac, and I went to Gattitown. We got cards so we could play games. We passed the gate we went to the salad bar to get food. When my delicious spaghetti was on my plate, all of it spilled on the floor! So I tried again, but more careful the second time. We sat down to eat, and we watched Toy Story 2. It was a good movie. I liked the part when Jessie scared Woody out of his boots. HA HA HA HA HA!
Then we played bumper cars and other cool games. The bumper cars were so awesome that I wanted to play on it all day. I love the bumper cars so much I wanted them because I could see my mom and dad pass me when I was trying to catch my brother. I could hear me and my brother scream to the top of are lungs. I could feel me zooming to my brother to bump into him. I could feel the jolt when I bumped into my brother.
Then I ate again but I ate sausage pizza and I topped it with spaghetti. It was really hard to keep the spaghetti on the pizza because it was so flimsy. It tasted so great probably because it was two of my favorite foods – pizza and spaghetti.
Then we got prizes from our tickets like disappearing ink, vampire teeth, and other awesome stuff.
We had a good time there.
                                                                             THE END

Trampoline Tragedy!

It was a warm summer day and Morgan and I were jumping on our trampoline. As I landed, I fell.

CRACK! I hurt my leg. I was crying. My dad carried me the stairs onto the couch. My mom got me an ice pack.

My dad said, “Stand up and try to walk.” So I did.

I replied, “It hurt too much.”

So my dad said, ”Let’s get an x-ray”.

My mom got me a flip-flop for my good foot (the other foot hurt too much) and my mom asked my dad if she should pack a snack but my dad said “No, we need to get there.”

So, we were in the car for a long time, it felt like, and when we finally got there I had to get checked out. I was worried because I didn’t know what the doctors were going to say. Then we had to wait a long time. And during that time I was playing on my dad’s phone and we had some M & M’s and Sprite. Finally we got my x -ray and a long time later we went back to a room and they said I had a mild sprain and I would need crutches.

I was kind of scared because my foot hurt and I didn’t know how to use crutches, but a man who worked there gave me a stuffed animal and I felt happier. We finally got to go home at midnight. When I went to sleep I slept with the stuffed animal.

When I First Met My New Friend in Class

Five days before school started I met my first friend in class. Her name was Sarah.

I was in the hallway leaving after meeting my teacher and she asked me if I wanted to meet a student that was in my class.

“Ok,’’ I whispered.

She called out Sarah’s name, so I knew she was a girl. I was wondering what she was going to look like, if she was nice, or if she wanted to be my friend or not. When she came around the corner, my legs were shaking while I hid behind mom. I was so nervous I could barely move. I came from behind my mom. There she was standing right in front of me, waiting to say hi. She had the same color eyes as me, with blonde hair. Then we finally said it-“Hi,” we both muttered. When we said it I wasn’t scared anymore.

I didn’t want to leave because I wanted to get to know her more, but I had to because my mom and I had to go buy school supplies. I thought she was kind of mean. I don’t know why I was thinking this because it turned out well. Looking back all of the kids at my old school were really mean to me, so I had a good reason to think that.

The day that school started I wanted to know what she thought of me. So I went over to her and asked her, “What did you think of me?” I was really nervous waiting for her to reply because I wanted to be her friend. She said, “Before I saw you I thought you were a boy because she didn’t tell me your name.” I quietly said, “Ok” and went over and tried to find my desk to work on my morning work. Then she came over to my desk and tapped me on my shoulder. She asked me if we wanted to be friends or not. Of course I said, “Yes, I would love to.” We have been friends ever since!!!

Beam Troubles!

On a cool day I was at gymnastics. We were on the scratchy beam. My LEAST favorite event. We were doing handstands.

I did a perfect one but, I didn’t land on the beam like I was supposed to. Instead, I landed between the two, blue mats. I felt something crack! It was my ankle!

I screamed because it hurt so bad. We put freezing, cold ice on it before my mom even got to the gym. I couldn’t stop crying!

While we waited for my mom, my aunt Heather, who was there, took me down for the last of conditioning. Luckily, it didn’t have anything to do with ankles. But, Mrs. Osh, my coach, helped me anyway.

After gymnastics I could barely walk on it. My mom made me prop up my foot in the middle seat in the car.

When we got home I took off my leotard and put on my pjs. My mom made me prop up my foot on a pillow. She said, ‘’It’s good for a hurt ankle.’’

The next day we went to get it X-rayed. In the X-ray room I was so scared I almost screamed. The X-ray room was dark and black. The X-ray machine was white with a bright, red light. I got it X-rayed. My mom thought it was really bad break, but it was a really bad sprain.

So we got in the car and went to Walmart. We got a fiery, red wrap and bright purple wrap for my ankle. I put the fiery, red wrap on my ankle first.

The rest of the day I rested on the red, leathery couch. My ankle still hurt. But the wrap helped me walk on it.

The next day I went back to school. I thought it was a pretty good day back at school. It still hurt to walk on it but, I walked on it anyway. Will I sprain my ankle again? I hope not.

Ocean Murals are the Best!

Dear Picadome Students,

The third grade is having a store. The money we raise is going to be used for a mural. I know we’ve been talking about the mural lately, and I think the mural should be the ocean.

First, I think the mural should be the ocean because it has a lot and lot of animals. Would you also love to see a Dolphin jump up from the ocean? Would you love to see a crab crawling on the sand floor? You can if you pick the ocean!!

Second, I think the mural should be the ocean because it’s relaxing. You could see all the animals swimming and having a great time. You’ll have a great time too. Would you also love to see the animals in the ocean? It would be like you could feel the animals if you touch the wall.

Last, but not least, we should have the ocean mural because it would be warm and cozy. Would you like to feel the warmth of the water on your skin? Would you love that? What about when the light hits off the sunroof. And that is why we should have an ocean for the mural.

Love,

Sparklecandy
